Microsoft Outlook

The Mail section of Outlook is open here. This is where you deal with your email. The Inbox is open, as you can see from the heading of the middle column. Your new emails should arrive here. To open an email to read and deal with put your mouse on it and double click.

Having opened your email you can now reply to it by clicking on Reply in the top row of icons. When you have typed your reply click on Send. If the email was sent to other people besides yourself (this one was not) and you wish them all to see your reply click on Reply to All rather than Reply. If you wish to send it to someone else click on Forward: you will obviously have to provide their email address before clicking on Send. If you wish to print out a copy go to the printer icon next along the line. To delete the email go to the black cross. This attachment is unusual because it is a zip. With normal attachments double click. You will be asked if you are sure that you wish to open the attachment as they are potentially dangerous bringing in viruses. DO NOT OPEN AN ATTACHMENT UNLESS YOU KNOW AND TRUST THE SENDER. To return to Outlook go to File then Close.

Here (on the left of the screen) is where you can choose to look at emails you have deleted, drafts, junk email and so on, by double clicking the relevant icon. When you press Send on an email it will go through the Outbox but if you are online it will usually immediately continue on its way. You can check the Sent box to make sure you remembered to send it. For Follow Up refers to emails where you have highlighted the little red flag beside the email so that you can easily find it again or to remind you that it still needs dealing with.

To send a new email click on New (highlighted in the picture.) You will then be able to fill in the recipient's address and write the email before pressing Send. If you click on the little grey box below Inbox you will find all the different ways in which your emails in your Inbox can be arranged. Two of the most useful are date (as set up) or Sender, with names of sender listed alphabetically, enabling you to look at your complete correspondence with any one person.
